Recycling & Composting Your Bonbons
Our 3D-printed pieces are now made from PHA.
Our 3D-printed artefacts are now made from PHA (polyhydroxyalkanoate), a home-compostable and marine-biodegradable material. This means that once the fun is over, the pieces can break down naturally rather than sitting in landfill for years. You can read more about our move to PHA.
All the paper-based content can be easily recycled in your normal recycling bin.
How should I dispose of the pieces?
After you’ve finished playing, and once you’re certain you don’t want to keep the pieces for another adventure, these are the best options:

Home compost: Place the PHA pieces in an active home compost system
- Council compost collection: If available in your area, place the pieces in your council's compost collection*
- Regular rubbish: If composting isn't an option, place the pieces in your regular rubbish. They will gradually biodegrade over time, depending on landfill conditions.
*Not all councils accept compostable plastics, so please check with your local council first.
How long do they take to break down?
If you home compost, your PHA pieces will break down naturally over time. Environmental conditions like temperature, moisture and bioactivity will affect how quickly this happens, and breaking larger pieces into smaller sections may help speed up the process.
We tested this ourselves in the Glass House Mountains in South-East Queensland. After about four months, our PHA sample had broken down to the point where we could no longer find or retrieve it. Although it hadn't necessarily fully biodegraded, it had clearly decomposed into much smaller pieces.
